    2 tablespoons dry yeast
    1 1/2 cups water (110º to 115º)
    3 tablespoons sugar
    2 cups whole wheat flour
    1/3 cup dry milk
    2 teaspoons salt
    2 teaspoons caraway seeds -- crushed
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/2 teaspoon sage
    2 tablespoons oil
    1 whole egg
    2 1/2 cups white flour

    Recipe



    Proof yeast in warm water and sugar. Add whole wheat flour, milk, salt,
    and herbs and beat 30 strokes. Add oil and egg and beat 75 strokes. Stir
    in while flour, turn onto board, and knead. Let rise in buttered bowl,
    covered, until doubled. Punch down and form two standard loaves. Let rise
    until doubled. Bake about 45 minutes at 375º.
