    1 cup butter
    2 cups sugar
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    4 eggs
    2 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
    Cocoa Frosting (below)

    Recipe



    1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.

    2. In large bowl, cream butter until softened. Add sugar gradually, creaming mixture until fluffy. Add vanilla and cocoa; blend well. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

    3. Sift flour, baking soda and salt onto waxed paper. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.

    4. Divide batter between 2 prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire rack for 8 minutes; remove from pan and cool completely on rack, then fill and frost with Cocoa Frosting.

    Cocoa Frosting:

    1/3 cup butter, softened
    1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    1 egg
    4 to 5 cups confectioners’ sugar
    1/3 cup unflavored yogurt or sour cream
    1/8 teaspoon salt

    1. In medium bowl, cream butter with cocoa. Beat in egg.

    2. Add confectioners’ sugar alternately with milk, yogurt or sour cream, beating mixture until very smooth and of spreading consistency. Stir in vanilla
