    CAKE
    4 large eggs
    2 large egg yolks
    1 1/4 cups buttermilk
    2 tsp vanilla
    3 cups cake flour
    2 cups sugar
    4 1/2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    FROSTING
    6 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted, cooled
    4 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
    1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
    6 tbs half and half
    1 tbs vanilla

    CAKE---Heat oven to 350 degrees. Coat bottoms and sides of 3 round cake pans with nonstick spray. Line bottoms with wax paper, spray with nonstick spray. Place eggs, egg yolks, 1/4 cup buttermilk and vanilla in a bowl, whisk until blended.

    In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt until blended. Add butter and the remaining buttermilk, beat until blended, then beat until mixture is light and fluffy. Add egg mixture, beating until blended. Pour batter into pans. Bake 32 min. or until done. Let cool in pans 10 min. Invert cakes onto racks. Peel off wax paper and cool completely.

    FROSTING---Place all ingredients in a food processor and pulse to blend, process until smooth. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a star tip with 3/4 of the frosting, set aside. Place 1 cake layer flat side up on a serving plate. Spread 3/4 cup frosting over top. Repeat with remaining layers. Frost sides with remaining frosting. Pipe reserved frosting along top and bottom edges of cake. Refrigerate 30 min. before serving. MAKES 16 SERVINGS.*
