    Mom's Apple Cobbler

    Source of Recipe

    unknown

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 cup butter
    2 cups sugar
    2 cups water
    1 1/2 cup sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 cup shortening
    1/3 cup milk
    2 cups peeled, chopped apples
    1 tsp. cinnamon

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. and melt butter in
13x9x2-inch baking pan. In medium saucepan, heat sugar and water until
sugar dissolves. Set aside. Stir flour, baking powder and salt together
and cut in shortening until it resembles coarse corn meal. Add milk and
stir with fork only until the dough leaves the sides of the bowl. Turn
out on lightly floured board and knead just until smooth.
Roll out dough into a large rectangle, 1/4 inch thick.
Sprinkle cinnamon over spples. Place apples evenly over dough. Roll up
dough jelly roll fashion. Dampen edge of dough and seal. Slice dough
into 16 slices, 1/2 inch thick. Place sliced dough into pan of melted
butter. Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls. (This will look like
too much liquid, but the crust will absorb it.) Bake for 40 to 45
    minutes
