Bread: Honey Wheat Bread

3 1/2 cups flour (up to 4)
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 packages dry yeast
1 tablespoon salt
1 whole egg
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
5 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Recipe
Preheat oven to 375�. In large bowl, combine 2 cups flour and 1 cup whole
wheat flour, yeast, and salt; mix well. In saucepan, heat milk, water,
honey, brown sugar, and shortening until warm (120� to 130�). Shortening
does not need to melt. Add liquid to flour mixture. Add egg. Blend at
low speed for 3 minutes. By hand, gradually stir in remaining wheat and
regular flour to make a firm dough. Knead for 5 minutes. Place in greased
bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour. Punch down, divide, and shape dough
into desired loaf. Let rise in warm place for about 45 minutes. Bake in a
375� oven until golden brown for about 55 minutes.
