Christmas: Holiday Sugar Cookies

2 cups butter, softened (No Substitutes)
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tbsp grated lemon peel
2 tsp vanilla
6 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
Frosting:
3 cups confectioners sugar
3 tbsp butter, melted
1/4 cup milk
Green Food Coloring
Red-Hot Candies
Recipe
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and the sugar. Add the eggs, one
at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in lemon peel and
vanilla. Combine flour and baking soda. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
Shape into three 10 inch rolls. Wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for
4 hours or until firm. Unwrap and cut into 1/4 inch slices. Place 2 inches
apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 F. for 10-15 minutes or until
the edges are light browned. Remove to wire racks to cool. In a bowl,
combine confectioners sugar, butter, milk, and food coloring. Transfer to a
resealable plastic bag. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag. Drizzle
over cookies in the shape of a Christmas Tree. Place one red-hot candy at
the top of each tree.
Yield: about 9 1/2 dozen cookies
