set a small bowl on the counter and put some vinegar and
sugar in it and stir. It will mock fermented fruit juice, and the fruit flies
should be attracted to it and drown.
I haven't used this method, but read it somewhere in the last day or two, and
thought it might be an inexpensive solution.
