    1/2 cup brown sugar -- firmly packed
    1 tablespoon cornstarch
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind -- optional
    1 teaspoon lemon juice
    1 20-ounce can pie-sliced apples -- undrained

    Recipe



    Combine the first 7 ingredients in a saucepan; blend well. Stir in
    apples, cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Serve hot over
    vanilla ice cream.
