Recipe Introduction
Q.: Years ago there was a deli in Apple Valley named Hugo’s. They had a cheese dip or spread that you put on rice crackers that was great! Could you possibly find the recipe?
A. “Twenty some years ago when I taught Head Start in Victorville, I tried to duplicate the delicious cheese spread from Hugo’s,” wrote Gail Smith of Phelan. “One of my student’s mothers worked there and she gave me the recipe. In fact it’s still written on the piece of brown paper bag she gave me. I hope Gil enjoys this as much as my family does.”
List of Ingredients
1 large package (8 oz.) cream cheese or 2 small, softened
1 small tub Wispride cheese spread
1/4 to 1/3 cup lemon juice, to taste
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Splash of milk
4 or more drops Tabasco sauce, to taste
Recipe
Cream all ingredients together and chill.
The amounts of individual ingredients can really be changed to suit your taste. I usually use 2 cream cheese, 1/4 cup lemon juice and lots of Tabasco to make it a little spicier.
