Recipe Introduction
first served Xmas 2002
List of Ingredients
1 1/2 C. heavy cream
1 spring fresh thyme
2 cloves garlic, pressed
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg (optional)
Butter
2 lbs.potatoes, (10 medum) peeled & sliced 1/8" thick
Salt & freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
substitutions:
1 small onion, chopped fine rather than garlic
Grated cheddar cheese for topping rather than Parmesan
Recipe
Preheat oven to 375°. In a saucepan, heat up the cream with a spring of thyme, garlic & nutmeg.
While cream is heating up, butter a casserole dish. Place a layer of potato in an overlapping pattern & season with salt & pepper. Remove cream from heat, then pour a little over the potatoes. Top with some grated Parmesan. Make 2 more layers. Bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes until potatoes are soft, creamy & golden brown. Sprinkle some more Parmesan & broil until cheese browns, about 5 minutes. *** I doubled sauce to suit our taste.
