Recipe Introduction
Sushi is a fantastic Japanese invention. It does toake some effort to make. The results make a good eats straight away meal or a take with you lunch or party finger food.
List of Ingredients
- 3 cups medium grain rice (japonica is good)
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tbs granulated (white) sugar
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Wash rice in large bowl with cold water and drain. Keep repeating this step until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- Let stand 20 minutes. Combine with 3 cups water in a large saucepan.
- Cover and bring to boil at high heat. Reduce heat and simmer 20-25 minutes until water absorbed. Remove from heat and let stand covered 20 minutes (if you prefer cook rice in a rice cooker.)
- Turn cooked rice into a large bowl. Combine vinegar, sugar and salt in a small saucepan. Cook over high heat until sugar dissolves.
- Pour over rice and fold or cut in with a flat wooden spoon. Do not stir. Cool to room temperature.
