    Lunch For Two

    Source of Recipe

made it up from what I had in fridge

    Recipe Introduction

omit anything you dont like. If you want it very fattening pour in some cream to finish (I didn't)

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 large topside steak
    • pepper medley
    • 1 large onion
    • 6-8 mushrooms
    • 2 tbs olive oil
    • knob of butter (optional)
    • 1/2 cup red wine
    • 1 tsp dijon mustard (more if you like)
    • sprinkle of nutmeg (optional)
    • 1 tsp cranberry sauce (some call it jelly) more if desired

    Instructions

    1. Sprinkle steak liberarily with pepper and restrainedly with nutmeg.
    2. Heat 1 tbs oil in pan. If necessary cut steak in half to fit pan. When pan hot add steak.
    3. Cook 3 min without touching. Turn and do it again. Remove. If needed repeat with second half.
    4. Leave steak on a plate for 5 min. This is called resting and is mandatory if you dont like tough meat.
    5. Slice onion. Add rest of oil to pan and cook onion on low to soften. Add in knob of butter and sliced mushrooms. Stir to cover in pan juices.
    6. Thinly slice steak and add back in with any juices it has collected. Turn up to high and pour in wine. Let it cook off a bit.
    7. Cook on low 2 minutes with mustard and cranberry sauce stirred through
    8. I served it with wholemeal toast (no spread), and cut up pieces of tomato. You could try mashed potato, rice or green salad instead as desired. Glass of wine or stubby of beer would work here.

    Final Comments

It's a very easy way to share a piece of steak and look like you are putting more effort in than you really are. It was an inexpensive way to impress.
