French Chewing

Recipe Introduction
I have never made this recipe, but I have a recipe card hand-written by Hilda Boggs documenting this family favorite. I have copied this recipe exactly as she wrote it. During the winters, her children would make French Chewing (a candy similar to taffy) on Sundays. Grandpa Boggs (Eddie) still claims it is one of his cherished candies. Tanglevine, a shop in Farmland, Indiana, sells this candy. During every trip to this store, we buy a pound of the candy if Jerome and Larry, the store owners, have made a batch.
List of Ingredients
First:
3 pints granulated sugar

1 pint glucose
Second:
1 tablespoon crystal flakes dissolved in warm water
1/2 cup shaved paraffin
Last:
Butter the size of an egg
Cook to hard ball.
Recipe
Mix all of this together.
