    White cake with chocolate icing

    List of Ingredients




    1 3/4 cups sifted flour
    2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1 cup plus 2 tblsp. sugar
    1/2 cup shortening (or 1/4 lb. butter)
    2-3 cup milk plus 1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs

    Recipe



    Place shortening (or butter) in mixing bowl, cream shortening, add sugar, cream until light and fluffy. Add dry ingredients. Add milk until all flour is dampened, then beat 300 strokes. Add unbeaten eggs, and beat 150 strokes. Pour batter into 2 eight inch layer cake pans which have been greased or lined with wax paper. Place in oven 350. Bake 30 minutes

    Icing

    2 cups sugar
    1/2 cup cocoa
    1/2 cup milk
    1/4/ lb. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla if desired

    Place sugar and cocoa in sauce pan and mix thoroughly. Add milk and mix well. Add butter. Place on low heat and let simmer for a while, increase heat and bring to a boil. Let boil hard for two minutes. Take off heat, add vanilla and let cool. Beat until creamy and spread on cake.
