    List of Ingredients




    2 cups sifted cake flour
    3/4 teaspoon soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 cup sugar

    1/2 cup shortening
    3/4 cup milk

    1/4 cup milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs
    3 squares unsweetened chocolate (melted and cooled)

    Sift together in one bowl:
    2 cups sifted cake flour
    3/4 teaspoon soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 cup sugar

    Add:
    1/2 cup shortening
    3/4 cup milk

    Mix until flour is dampened. Beat thorougly.

    Add:
    1/4 cup milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs
    3 squares unsweetened chocolate (melted and cooled)

    Beat one minute: Turn into 2 seven inch layer pans greased and floured. Bake about 23 minutes at 375. Cool and frost with EB's white icing.

    EB's White Icing
    2 1/4 cup sugar
    1 1/8 cup cold water
    Whites of three large eggs
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    3 tsp. lemon juice
    9 marshmallows
    pinch salt

    From the sugar reserve 3 tablespoons. Put sugar and water to boil until a long thread is given when tested. Beat egg whites stiff, add pinch of salt, add reserve sugar. Beat eggs while sugar is boiling. When ready pour over whites slowly. (Marshmallows have been added just before taking from the stove.) Continue beating until thick, add vanilla and lemon juice. Spread real thick between layers, tops and sides when cool.
