    List of Ingredients




    2 cups sifted cake flour
    1 teaspoon soda
    3/4 teaspoon soda
    1/2 cup shortening
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 eggs unbeaten
    3 squares Baker's unsweetened chocolate melted
    1 cup of milk

    Recipe



    Sift flour once, measure, add soda and salt, and sift together three times. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add melted chocolate and blend. Add flour alternately with milk, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla. Bake in two 9 inch layer pans which have been greased and floured.

    This cake is stacked with either seven minute frosting or any desired frosting.
