Recipe Introduction
The MAMA'S COOK BOOK was prepared by the Pre-School Group of the Louisville (Georgia) Parent Teacher Association many years ago when most women knew the ins and outs of cooking. Therefore part of the directions are sometimes left out.
List of Ingredients
6 eggs, separated
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 tsp. lemon or vanilla flavoring
1 tsp. baking powderRecipe
Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Add sugar gradually, beating well after each addition. Beat yolks separately until thick and lemon colored - add to whites and blend the two completely. Add flavoring. Fold in every carefully the sifted flour-baking powder mixture - just enough to blend. Pour into large tube pan (ungreased). Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes to one hour. When cake tests done invert so that air can circulate under and around cake and let hang in pan until cool. Serve frosted or plain or use for shortcake.
