    The MAMA'S COOK BOOK was prepared by the Pre-School Group of the Louisville (Georgia) Parent Teacher Association many years ago when most women knew the ins and outs of cooking. Therefore part of the directions are sometimes left out.

    List of Ingredients




    Stir over slow heat until sugar is dissolved:
    2 cups sugar
    1/4 cup cocoa
    3/4 cup milk

    2 tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 cup broken nut meats

    Recipe



    Stir the first 3 ingredients over slow heat until sugar is dissolved.

    Cook these ingredients very, very slowly to the soft ball stage - 238 degrees. Do not stir them, unless they threaten to burn. After they reach the boiling point, remove the saucepan from the fire and add without stirring: 2 tbsp. butter. Beat the syrup when the syrup is nearly cold add: 1 tsp. vanilla. Beat the syrup until it is creamy. Grease the platter lightly with butter. When the syrup thickens, just before it is ready to pour in the platter add 1 cup broken nut meats.
