    THE MAMA'S COOK BOOK - Gwen Watson

    The MAMA'S COOK BOOK was prepared by the Pre-School Group of the Louisville (Georgia) Parent Teacher Association many years ago when most women knew the ins and outs of cooking. Therefore part of the directions are sometimes left out.

    List of Ingredients




    2 cups sugar
    1/2 cup corn syrup
    1/2 cup water
    3/4 cup candied cherries
    2 egg whites
    3/4 cup blanched almonds
    1 tbsp. almond or lemon extract

    Recipe



    Put sugar, water and corn syrup into saucepan. Stir it white it dissolves over the fire, then let it boil without stirring to a light crack stage (265 degrees F). While it is cooking beat the whites of the eggs stiffly and when the syrup is ready pour it over them, beating constantly. Beat until creamy and add nuts, cherries and extract. Pour into buttered tins.
