1 lb chopped walnuts
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 16 oz pack phyllo dough
1 1/2 cups butter(3 sticks) melted
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp lemon zest or orange zest
Recipe
Butter a 9x13 pan baking dish, preheat oven to 350.
in a separate bowl, mix together walnuts n cinnamon.
unroll phyllo dough n keep covered with damp cloth while assembling each layer.
place two phyllo sheets at the bottom of each Baking dish.
cover entire surface with butter by brushing on.
after 6-8 phyllo layers,sprinkle nut mixture to completely cover the phyllo dough surface..repeat with layering and buttering phyllo and sprinkle nut mixture until all ingredients are used-making sure to reserve at least 6 phyllo sheets to make the top layer.
cut baklava with sharp knife into desired shape.place in oven 45-50 min.
until crisp n golden in color.
while baklava is baking combine sugar n water in saucepan over med heat n bring to a boil,stir in honey,vanilla,and lemon zest-reduce heat n simmer for 20 min.
remove baklava from oven when finished and immediately pour syrup over it.let cool for at least an hr before serving so the pieces stay together.
