"This poppyseed salad dressing is delicious and easy to make. It was my husband's grandmother's recipe that I have made for years. Definitely try this recipe if you like dressings on the sweet side!"
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
2 cups vegetable oil
3 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup white vinegar
3 tablespoons onion juice
Directions:
1. In a 1-quart jar with a lid, mix together the sugar, mustard powder, vegetable oil, poppy seeds, salt, white vinegar, and onion juice; tighten the lid onto the jar, and shake vigorously to combine. Reshake the dressing before using.
Cook's Note:
Do not substitute the onion juice for any other ingredient - it makes a difference in the outcome of the dressing!
Editor's Note:
To make onion juice, grate or finely chop an onion in a blender; pour the onion into a piece of cheesecloth or a fine strainer, and allow the juice to drip into a bowl. Squeeze the cloth to get more juice.
