    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups self-rising cornmeal
    • 2 cups buttermilk
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1/3 cup butter


    Instructions


    1. Stir together first 4 ingredients in a large bowl.
    2. Melt butter in an 8-inch cast-iron skillet in a 425 degree oven for 5 minutes. Tilt skillet to coat evenly with butter.
    3. Pour cornbread batter into the buttered skillet.
    4. Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden.
    5. Remove from skillet immediately and let cool.
