    Recipe Introduction


    This is an old recipe passed down in my family. Cake is sweet and moist and doesn't taste at all like prunes. It is a favorite at Christmas in my family.

    List of Ingredients






    3 eggs
    1cup cooking oil
    1 tsp. Soda
    1 tsp. Allspice
    1 tsp. Cinnamon
    1 tsp. Vanilla
    1 ½ cups sugar
    2 cups flour
    1 tsp. Salt
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 cup chopped prunes
    1 cup chopped walnuts

    Recipe



    Combine eggs and oil. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Add vanilla, prunes, nuts, and mix well. Bake in 350 degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes in tube or bundt pan.

    While cake is baking, prepare sauce:
    Sauce for Prune Cake
    1 cup sugar
    ½ tsp. Soda
    1 stick margarine
    ½ cup buttermilk
    1 tblsp. Corn syrup
    ½ tsp. Vanilla

    Mix all ingredients well and boil for 2 minutes. Pour over cake as soon as it is taken out of the oven and still in pan. To help sauce soak into cake, poke holes throughout top of cake with a fork before pouring on sauce. Allow cake to thoroughly cool before removing from pan.
    Prune Cakes freeze well.
