    List of Ingredients


    • 2 Packages active dry yeast
    • 1/4 cup warm water (110-115 degrees)
    • 2 cups warm buttermilk
    • 5 cups flour
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 1 Tbls. baking powder
    • 1 teas. baking soda
    • 1 Tbls. salt
    • 1 cup shortening, butter or margerine


    Instructions


    1. Disolve yeast in warm water. Let stand 5 minutes.
    2. Stir in buttermilk, set aside.
    3. In large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, BP, soda and salt.
    4. Cut in shortening until resembling coarse meal.
    5. Stir in yeast mixutre; mix well.
    6. Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead 3-4 times.
    7. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
    8. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Cover, let rise in warm place 1 1/2 hours.
    9. Bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Brush with melted butter.

    yeild 2 1/2 dozen.
