    List of Ingredients


    • 1 pkg dry yeast
    • 1 teas sugar
    • 1/4 cup warm water
    • 5 cups self-rising flour*
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1 cup shortening
    • 1cup buttermilk
    • 1/2 cup melted butter


    Instructions


    1. Dissolve yeast and 1 teas. sugar in warm water.
    2. Sift flour and 1/4 cup sugar in large bowl.
    3. Cut in shortening.
    4. Stir in yeast and buttermilk.
    5. Place dough on floured surface and knead until well blended. (May be refrigerated for up to 3 days)
    6. Return to room temperature and roll out and cut out biscuits.
    7. Dip into melted butter and place slightly apart on a baking sheet.
    8. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes.


    Final Comments


    Plain flour, with the addition of 5 teas. baking powder and 1 teas. salt may be substituted for self-rising flour.
