- 1 pkg dry yeast
- 1 teas sugar
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 5 cups self-rising flour*
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 1cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast and 1 teas. sugar in warm water.
- Sift flour and 1/4 cup sugar in large bowl.
- Cut in shortening.
- Stir in yeast and buttermilk.
- Place dough on floured surface and knead until well blended. (May be refrigerated for up to 3 days)
- Return to room temperature and roll out and cut out biscuits.
- Dip into melted butter and place slightly apart on a baking sheet.
- Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes.
Final Comments
Plain flour, with the addition of 5 teas. baking powder and 1 teas. salt may be substituted for self-rising flour.
