Red Velvet Cake

List of Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbl. cocoa
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 oz. food coloring (2 bottles)
- 1 teas. vanilla
- 1Tbl. vinegar
- 1 tsp. soda
Instructions
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add eggs and beat well.
- Sift flour, salt and cocoa together 3 times, then add to batter alternately with buttermilk.
- Add food coloring and vanilla.
- Mix soda and vinegar and fold into cake. DO NOT BEAT!
- Pour into 2 greased and floured heart shaped cake pans.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
Final Comments
Mom used German Coconut frosting.
