    Red Velvet Cake

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1 Tbl. cocoa
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 2 oz. food coloring (2 bottles)
    • 1 teas. vanilla
    • 1Tbl. vinegar
    • 1 tsp. soda


    Instructions


    1. Cream shortening and sugar.

    2. Add eggs and beat well.

    3. Sift flour, salt and cocoa together 3 times, then add to batter alternately with buttermilk.

    4. Add food coloring and vanilla.

    5. Mix soda and vinegar and fold into cake. DO NOT BEAT!

    6. Pour into 2 greased and floured heart shaped cake pans.

    7. Bake at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes.



    Final Comments


    Mom used German Coconut frosting.
