Apple Upside Down Cake

4 Granny Smith apples

1 box yellow cake mix

Recipe
Heat oven to 375F. Place butter, sugar and apple cider in the 12" Family Skillet over medium heat. Bring to a slight boil, around 10 min. Remove the skillet from heat.
Core & thinly slice the apples. Arrange the apples in the pan, over the caramel mixture. Place the skillet over med-high heat. Boil about 10 min, until the sugar mixture becomes caramel colored. Remove from heat.
Rearrange apples, if necessary to make a pretty design. Coarsely chop the walnuts, sprinkle between apple wedges. In bowl, place cake mix and 6 tablespoon of butter. Blend with pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Finely grate walnuts into the cake mix. Add the apple cider and egg. Stir until the mixture is just moistened (batter will be thick). Spoon batter over apple mixture. Bake 35-40 min. Cool 10 min. (no longer!). Invert onto serving plate.
