    Recipe Introduction


    This is my all-time favorite chocolate cake.


    List of Ingredients


    • 3 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
    • 2/3 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1 beaten egg
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 cups sifted cake flour
    • 1 teaspoon soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2/3 cup milk


    Instructions


    1. Combine chocolate, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk and beaten egg in saucepan. Cook and stir over low heat until chocolate melts and mixture thickens, cool.
    2. Cream together shortening and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add remaining eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
    3. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with 2/3 cup milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture; beat after each addition.
    4. Blend in cooled chocolate mixture. Bake in 2 9-inch round cake pans at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until done.
