Fall Maple Leaf Biscuits

1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 tablespoon maple syrupRecipe
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In bowl, mix together
dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and mix to form soft dough. Knead 10 to 12 times. Pat out dough to 1/2-inch thick. Cut out with maple leaf cutter or biscuit cutter. Mix together butter and maple syrup. Place biscuits on lightly greased baking sheet.
Brush butter mixture over biscuits and bake 10 to 12 minutes.
Save some of the syrup mixture to brush over biscuits after
they are removed from the oven. Brush remaining syrup over biscuits. Makes 1 1/2 dozen biscuits.
