    Hovis-Like Bread

    Source of Recipe

    Toronto Star

    Recipe Introduction

Hovis is a small multi-grain loaf popular in England. When we still had Marks & Spencer stores, it was available frozen. This recipe, adapted from a large, from-scratch recipe from the Mary Moore Cookbook (out of print), makes a fine-textured loaf. As with all bread machine recipes, you may have to adjust the amounts to suit your machine.

    List of Ingredients

    2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    3/4 cup whole-wheat flour
    1/4 cup rolled outs
    2 tbsp yellow cornmeal
    2 tbsp wheat germ
    1/3 cup instant milk powder
    1 tsp salt
    1 tbsp brown sugar
    1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp vegetable oil or shortening
    1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 tsp instant or bread machine yeast

    Recipe

Place all ingredients in bucket of 2-lb (1 kg) bread machine in order recommended by instruction manual. Choose basic or whole-wheat bread cycle.

    Makes 1 loaf.
