List of Ingredients
1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
10 egg yolks
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 square (1 ounce) semi-sweet or unsweetened chocolate, grated
Frosting (see below)
Recipe
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans. In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and allspice. In a small mixing bowl beat egg yolks until thick. Cream together butter and sugar, beat well. Add the egg yolks and mix well. Alternately add milk and vanilla with the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, blending well after each addition. Fold in chocolate. Pour batter into cake pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool and frost.
FROSTING
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2/3 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a saucepan blend together sugars and sour cream. Heat to softball stage (236 degrees). Remove from heat and cool until slightly warm. Beat in vanilla until it reaches spreading consistency. Thin with milk if necessary.
