    CAKE
    1 cup finely chopped pitted dates
    1 cup chopped pecans
    1 cup sugar
    3 tablespoons fresh bread crumbs
    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    3 tablespoons milk
    3 egg whites
    CUSTARD
    1 tablespoon cornstarch
    3 egg yolks
    1/4 cup sugar
    2 cups hot milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/8 teaspoon salt

    Recipe



    Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, combine dates, pecans, sugar, bread crumbs, flour, baking powder, milk and egg whites; mix well. Place in ungreased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Bake 40 minutes or until browned; cool.

    To make custard, in small saucepan, combine cornstarch, egg yolks and 1/4 cup sugar; beat well. Stir in milk, vanilla and salt. Cook over low heat 5 minutes or just until set, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; cool. Pour over filling.

    Makes 12 servings
