    Pastry:

    1 cup sifted flour

    ¼ tsp. salt

    1/3 cup shortening

    2 ½ tbsp. cold water

    Filling:

    5 cups peeled, cored and sliced Jonathan apples

    1 cup sugar

    1 tbsp. flour

    ¼ tsp. salt

    ½ tsp. cinnamon

    1 tsp. lemon juice

    Topping:

    ½ cup flour

    1 cup Grape-Nuts Flakes

    ½ cup sugar

    1/8 cup brown sugar

    ½ cup butter

    Pecan halves

    Recipe



    To make pastry, cut shortening into sifted flour and salt. Add cold water, roll out dough and fit into 9-inch pie pan. Flute edges.

    To make filling, combine sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon and lemon juice and toss with apples. Put in pie shell.

    Combine all topping ingredients except pecan halves in a bowl and sprinkle mixture over filling.

    Bake pie in 450-degree oven for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 350 and continue baking for 45 minutes, or until apples are tender. Place pecan halves around edge of pie for the last half-hour of baking.
