Recipe Introduction
Those who listened to Late GameNight know that the 1955 Dodgers gave Brooklyn their only World Series victory. Legend has it that a Buttermilk cake (baked by the family of rookie Frank Kellert) was the "magic". It started a winning streak, stopped a losing streak, and "inspired" the Dodgers all through the World Series. Here is the recipe for that delicious cake (reprinted with permission from Carl Erskine's book Tales From the Dodger Dugout)
List of Ingredients
1 cup shortening
4 whole eggs
dash salt
1/2 tsp baking soda (dissolved in buttermilk)
1 cup buttermilk
4 tbsp. vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup finely chopped pecans
2 cups sugar
Recipe
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs. Add flour and buttermilk alternately. Add vanilla, stir well and add pecans. Bake well in a greased, floured tube pan at 350 degrees for one hour. Win World Series.
