    Salt beef
    One head of cabbage, quartered
    8 Carrots
    8 turnip
    12 medium potatoes

    Optional: pudding bag and 1 lb. yellow split peas

    Recipe



    1. Rinse the salt beef before cooking to remove excess salt.
    2. Cook the salt beef in water for 2 to 3 hours. (If making pease porridge, soak the peas overnight, put in bag and place the pudding bag in with the beef. Tie the bag tightly, but leave room between the knot and the peas to leave room for expansion.)
    3. Cut turnip into four pieces. Add quartered pieces of cabbage and thick slices of carrot.
    4. Let cook for about 15 minutes then add quartered peeled potatoes.

    This one pot meal will take about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to cook.

    To serve: arrange the vegetables on a platter and the beef on a separate plate. Take the pease pudding out of the bag and put it in a bowl, mix with margarine and pepper and serve.
