    2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
    1/3 cup olive oil
    1 pound ground beef chuck
    1 pound stewing beef cut into 1/4-inch dice
    1 tablespoon oregano
    1 teaspoon cumin
    1 bay leaf
    6 cardamom seeds
    1 can tomatoes
    1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
    2 small cans tomato puree
    2 cans red kidney beans drained
    1/3 bottle ketchup
    1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    Dash angostura bitters
    1 tablespoon soy sauce
    2 tablespoons molasses
    1 can bean sprouts drained
    2 teaspoons chili powder (or to taste)

    Saute garlic in oil over medium heat until it begins to brown. Remove garlic and saute onions until soft. Add beef and sauteed garlic to the onions and cook over medium heat until meat is cooked through.

    Using slotted spoon, place meat mixture in large pot with remaining ingredients except the bean sprouts and chili powder. Simmer for 3 hours, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. During the last 30 minutes of cooking, add bean sprouts and chili powder.
