KATY’S EXTREMELY EASY CHILI

1 lb. hamburger
½ medium onion, chopped; or ½ cup frozen diced onion
1 16 oz. can of original style stewed tomatoes
1 8 oz. can of tomato sauce
2 16 oz. cans of dark red kidney beans
Chili powder to tasteRecipe
In a medium (3 qt.) saucepan, cook the hamburger and onion together until the hamburger is cooked through and crumbly.
Add the stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce and kidney beans.
Season with chili powder. I would start with a tablespoon and work up until it achieves the desired level of heat. Go slowly and let the chili heat through before adding more chili powder-the heat intensifies the spiciness. Also, chili powder sneaks up on you-something that doesn't seem too spicy when you first taste it may have quite a kick a moment or two later.
Heat through-the longer you heat it, the better it tastes. Serve with saltines (my sister's preference) or tortilla chips (mine).
