    GRANDPA'S CHILI CON CARNE

    1 lb. ground beef
    1 lg. onion, chopped

    Crumble and brown ground beef in heavy skillet (no fat added). Add onion, cook until almost tender. Drain off any fat. Add:

    1 can tomatoes (3 1/2 cups) chop in small bits
    1 lg. (or 2 sm.) bay leaves
    1 to 2 tsp. chili powder
    2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
    1/8 tsp. paprika

    Simmer gently 2 hours, adding bean liquid as needed to keep consistency of thick soup. Add:

    1 can (15 1/2 oz.) kidney beans

    Heat through, remove bay leaves and serve in small bowls. You may use two cans kidney beans to extend if needed, best with the one can, however.
