    Johnny Rocket's Route 66 Hamburger

    4 Full Size Hamburger Buns (plain)
    1 1/4 lb. Ground Chuck
    1 lb. Fresh Mushrooms (cleaned, sliced)
    1 Medium Size Yellow Onion (sliced into 1/3" rings)
    Salt and Pepper to Taste
    4 Slices Swiss Cheese
    Mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. Butter (softened for grilling hamburger buns)
    2 Tbsp. Butter (for sautéing onions)

    Recipe



    In a heavy skillet or kitchen grill brush softened butter on the insides of hamburger buns. On medium heat grill buns until lightly toasted. Set aside prepared hamburger buns. On medium low temperature place 2 Tbsp. of butter in skillet, melt butter add sliced onions and mushrooms. Stir vegetables until mushrooms are limp and onions are transparent. If there is not enough moisture in the mushrooms add one Tbsp. of water to onions and mushrooms. Stir constantly, remove from pan and set a side. Mix salt and pepper with ground chuck and divide ground chuck into 4 servings and shape into 4 patties. In same skillet on medium high heat place hamburger patties in fry pan and cook until done, patties should stay moist. Place a piece of Swiss cheese on each patty before you remove them from the pan.

    Building the Route 66 Hamburger:
    On Bottom Bun place a hamburger patty.
    Next a generous portion of sautéed onions and mushrooms.
    Slather on top bun with mayonnaise and put the lid on.
