Alabama Banana Pudding

3/4 cup water
1 dash salt
1/4 cup flour
3 egg yolks -- beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups milk
2 bananas -- sliced (2 to 4)
15 vanilla wafers
MERINGUE:
3 egg whites
6 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Recipe
Combine sugar, salt and flour; add to egg yolk and vanilla. Heat
milk in saucepan; slowly add egg mixture. Cook until thick.
Arrange wafers and bananas in shallow 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
Add pudding.
To make meringue, beat egg whites, sugar and vanilla until very
stiff.
Spread over pudding and bake at 400° until golden brown. Serve
warm or cold.
