    meat-cabbage casserole

    List of Ingredients




    1 small head cabbage, shredded
    2 Tbsp butter
    2 Tbsp dark corn syrup
    2 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp ground marjoram
    1 lb ground lean beef
    1 cup bread crumbs
    1/2 cup milk
    2 eggs, beaten

    Recipe



    Cook the cabbage (in enough boiling water to cover) for about 5 minutes
    or until tender-crisp. Drain. Add the butter, syrup, salt, and marjoram.
    In another bowl, mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, and eggs.

    Butter a 2-quart casserold and layer the cabbage and meat mixture in it,
    beginning and ending with the cabbage. Bake in a moderate oven (350deg)
    for 1 hour or until the meat is done. Serves 6 to 8.

    Note: Julie also adds 1/4 tsp allspice and 1/4 tsp nutmeg, and white
    pepper to taste.
