(Greek Drop Doughnuts)
List of Ingredients
* 2 packages dry yeast
* 1/2 cup warm water
* 3/4 cup scalded milk
* 1/4 cup sugar
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/3 cup soft shortening (Crisco)
* 2 eggs
* 3 1/2 cups flour
* Honey and cinnamon
* Oil for fryingRecipe
Add yeast to water, let stand.
Pour hot milk into separate bowl. Add sugar and salt. Blend and allow to cool until lukewarm.
Add yeast mixture to milk, sugar and salt mixture and stir.
Mix in shortening, eggs, and flour. Beat vigorously until batter is smooth.
Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Stir batter down and set aside to rest. Fill a heavy pan 2 inches deep with oil, and heat to 350 degrees.
Drop full teaspoons of batter into oil. Turn when edges show color, and fry until golden brown.
Drain on absorbent paper.
Dilute honey with a little warm water.
Put Loukoumathes in bowl and drizzle honey over them, then sprinkle with cinnamon.
Serve immediately.
