    Recipe Introduction

I found this one in a booklet from 1934 called Good Things to Eat from Arm and Hammer baking soda company...

    List of Ingredients

    Quick Rolls
    2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp arm and hammer baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 tbsp shortening
3/4 cup sour milk or buttermilk

    Recipe

Sift flour once, measure, add baking soda and salt and sift again. Cut in shortening. Add enough milk to make a stiff dough. Turn onto floured board. Knead for two or three minutes. Roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut with 2 inch floured cutter. Fold in half, pressing edges firmly together. Place a little apart in greased pan. Brush with melted butter, cover and let stand 20 minutes in a warm place. Bake in hot oven ( 475 degrees) 10 minutes. Brush again with melted butter, and finish baking 10-15 minutes. Brush with butter once more adn serve immediately. makes 12 rolls.
