    1 1/2 tsp. cold water
    1/2 - 3/4 cup(s) browned flour
    2 - 4 tbsp. shortening
    1 pinch ground cloves
    1 tsp. salt
    2 pork hocks
    1 tsp. coarse salt
    3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 pinch ground cloves
    2 pinch ground nutmeg
    2 tbsp. shortening
    4 cup(s) lukewarm water
    2 onions, sliced

    Rub hocks with mixture of seasonings. Melt shortening in cast iron kettle; brown hocks until dark brown colour. Add water and onions; simmer covered 2 bours. Remove hocks, cool and bone. Meanwhile, combine ground pork and seasonings. From into small balls and brown in hot fat. Return juice to boil in kettle and add meat balls; cover and simmer 1 hour. In a jar, combine browned flour and cold water. Cover tightly and shake until well blended. Pour mixture in boiling stew, return to boil and cook, stirring coustantly until thickened. Stir in meat from hocks and serve.
    Yield: 6 to 8 servings
