List of Ingredients
4 pounds ground beef (80 percent lean)
16-ounce loaf of bread
4 medium eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup finely chopped onions
1/3 cup finely chopped green pepper
1/3 cup finely chopped celery
1½ tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1½ tablespoons salt
2 cups milkRecipe
Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the ground beef into a large mixing bowl. In a blender or food processor, chop the bread, in batches if necessary, into very coarse crumbs. Work the breadcrumbs as evenly as possible into the meat. (Squeezing everything through my fingers seemed to work well for this.) Add the rest of the ingredients to ground beef. Mix well, first with a large wooden spoon, and then with your fingers. Shape into loaf, place in baking pan, and bake at 400 degrees for approximately 2 hours or until internal temp is 165 degrees and juices run clear. Let sit at least 10 minutes before slicing.
Serves 12.
