California Style Barbecue Sauce

3/4 c Granulated sugar
1/2 c Japanese soy sauce
1/2 c Tomato catsup
1/2 c Dry sherry
3 cl Garlic; crushed
1 ts Ground ginger
1/2 ts Pepper; freshly ground
Recipe
In a medium bowl, stir all ingredients until combined. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. (The sauce can be prepared up to 3 days ahead, covered, and refrigerated.) Note: This sauce shows the influence of Asian ranch cooks.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups
