    Savory Bacon Gravy

    Source of Recipe

    Farmer John

    List of Ingredients

4 slices Farmer John® Bacon chopped
    1 cup Onion finely chopped
1 1/4 tsp. Dried Sage crumbled
    1 tsp. Dried Thyme Leaves
    3 Tbs. All-Purpose Flour
    1 3/4 cup Whole Milk
1 1/2 tsp. Browning and Seasoning Sauce (such as Kitchen Bouquet or Maggi)
    2/3 cup Chicken Broth
    Salt and Pepper to Taste

    Recipe

1: Heat a medium size saucepan and cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the bacon drippings in the pan. Add the onion, sage, and thyme to the saucepan and cook for 3 minutes. Stir in the flour and whisk over low heat until a paste has formed and the flour is lightly colored, approximately 2-3 minutes.
2: Add the milk, browning sauce and chicken broth and whisk until smooth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cook over low heat and add bacon. Continue cooking, stirring, about 10 minutes. Cook until the gravy is thick and the flour taste has cooked off, approximately 5 more minutes. Add milk to adjust to desired consistency. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve.

    Makes 2 1/4 cups.
