Red and Gold Split Pea Soup

2 tablespoons chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup dried split peas
4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup chopped celery leaves
pinch of summer savory
1 potato, diced
1/2 cup grated carrot
1 rib celery, chopped
1 tablespoon chopped sweet red pepper
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 cup yogurt
1/4 cup nasturtium flowers (petals only)
Recipe
Saute the onion and garlic in oil in a large, heavy pot. Add washed split peas, water, salt, celery leves and summer savory. Bring to a boil; cover, then simmer 45 minutes or until the peas are tender.
Add potato, carrot, celery, red pepper and parsley. Simmer 25 minutes. Serve hot with a dollop of yogurt and a sprinkling of nasturtium petals.
Serves 4.
