    /4 cup flour
    1 cup beef broth
    1 cup each of cubed potatoes and carrots
    1 cup pearl onions
    1 tbsp olive oil
    1/2 cup frozen peas
    1 bay leaf
    1 lb stewing beef
    1 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
    2 cloves chopped garlic

    3 to 4 tbsp tomato paste
    2 tbsp cornstarch
    1/4 tsp thyme
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Water to cover

    Recipe



    Coat beef with flour and pepper mixture.
    Heat oil in Dutch oven over med heat, add beef and cook until browned on all sides.
    Add onions, carrots, potatoes, garlic, bay leaf, thyme, tomato paste and broth.
    Partially cover with water, bring to a boil and simmer for 1 hour.
    Add mushrooms and cook a further 5 minutes then add peas and cook another 5 minutes.
    Remove 3 to 4 tbsp of liquid and mix in cornstarch.
    Add mixture to pan to thicken stew.
