    1 pound sauerkraut
    1 large onion, sliced
    2 apples, sliced
    2 tablespoons butter
    1 teaspoon juniper berries
    1 teaspoon caraway seeds
    1-2 raw potatoes, grated
    11⁄2 cups water or sweet cider
    1 teaspoon dark brown sugar
    Salt, to taste

    Recipe



    � Rinse sauerkraut in warm water; drain.

    � Saute the apples and onion in butter until soft. Add caraway, juniper berries, sugar and sauerkraut. Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes. Add more sugar to taste if desired.

    � Add grated potato, water or cider and salt. Continue cooking until sauerkraut is tender.

    � Serve with baked or boiled potatoes and yellow split pea puree.
